A WINNER, ALL THE WAY
A DIABETOLOGIST WITH A HEART OF GOLD,
DR LEENA GUPTA RECENTLY WON THE COVETED MRS INDIA EMPRESS OF THE NATION 2021 PAGEANT WITH HER INIMITABLE GRACE
Every great dream begins with a dreamer’s self belief, and I lived my dreams”, beams Dr Leena Gupta, when asked about her recent achievement – winning the coveted title of Diva Pageants’ ‘Mrs India Empress of the Nation 2021’ in the Gold category. Held at Hyatt Pune on December 10, 2021, Dr Gupta not only walked away with the prestigious crown from amongst 31 finalists at the glittering finale, but also bagged the subtitle of ‘Mrs Achiever Award’ in the same category!
The brainchild of Karl and Anjana Mascaren has, Diva Pageants is not just about beauty, but also brains and a heart of gold. And since Dr Gupta ticked all the three boxes, her win was absolutely welldeserved! A doctor by profession, holding MBBS, MD, MPhil degrees, practising as a Diabetologist and Physician, and Founder of Meesha Polyclinic and Diagnostic Centre, Dr Gupta, believes that all “Learnings and earnings are for service of the society.” From providing free COVID-19 consultations to subsidising treatments for un-affording patients, she has lived by this philosophy every day. During testing times of Covid, with her family under stress, despite her fears and anxiety, she never stopped working, ensuring that none of the patients were deprived of medical needs. She was available for online consultations during the first and second wave of the pandemic, attending to hundreds of patients from UP, Delhi, Karnataka. “Let’s do all that we can. We are blessed to be able to help”, she adds. She recognised the lack of good doctor consultations in many neighbourhoods, and on requests from people in these areas, she started treating the patients online. Naturally, she was inundated with requests for consultations, day and night. “Right advice at the right time, and proper guidance saves lives. Lots of diagnostics are not available in smaller towns – they did not even have oximeters – but through consultations, we can teach
them what to do. This helped several people cope with the disease”, she says.Dr Gupta has always believed in giving back to society from the early days of her practice. Apart from the work she has done during the pandemic, she has been helping countless youngsters achieve their dreams or get timely medical aid.
“LEARNINGS AND
EARNINGS ARE FOR
SERVICE OF THE
SOCIETY.”
From sponsoring heart operations for underprivileged girls to supporting tribal kids of Nandurbar, sponsoring girl players for world chess competitions, paying for engineering and dental college fees for less fortunate students, supplying food during the pandemic to lower rungs of society, and organising medical camps in slums, Dr Gupta puts her heart and soul into all social causes.Dr Gupta has an artistic side to her persona too – she is an accomplished Bharatnatyam dancer who has given solo performances at national level dance festivals like the Ellora Festival, Kalidas Festival, Elephanta Festival, Mysore Dussehra Festival etc., and also in Mahakaleshver temple, Mumbai Juhu ISKCON temple, Dussehra festival at Jugmohan Palace Mysore, among others. As a child artist, she has performed for Aralu Mallige, a weekly serial on Udaya Channel.A beautiful personality inside and out, Dr Gupta was crowned Miss Mysore in 1993, and went on to become Sangam Queen – Miss Karnataka. That’s not all, she has also authored five successful children books. Speaking of being crowned Diva Mrs India, she says, “Our mentors, Karl and Anjana, were with us the whole day, grooming us with a lot of patience. I, being an entrepreneur, sincerely appreciate attention to minutest of details and generation of an ambience of participation, care as well as excitement. The days that I spent with my Diva family will be a memory that I will cherish forever. Finally, thanks are due for gifts of confidence, health, grooming, self-esteem as well as the twinkle in the eyes of my children (she has two children – daughter 21 years old and son 17 years old, both internationally rated chess players). Last but not the least, a most supportive hubby who tries to fulfill all my weirdest ideas into reality. That is the main reason I have excelled in so many fields”, she smiles.
